FrequentlyAsked
Questions
What skill-level is required?
The CP Town Singers are a non-audition, inclusive group. Some musical familiarity is helpful, but not a deal-breaker. You don't need to be able to read music, as we offer recordings of each part for each song to learn from, as well as sheet music. All you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!
How can I pay my fees?
We are happy to take cash, cheques and e-transfers. E-trasnfers can be made to cptownsingers@gmail.com. Please ensure you put your first and last name, along with the session you are paying for in the memo line.
There are volunteers available at every practice to help.
What should I know before coming to the first practice?
Bring your smile, a water bottle, a pen/pencil and an open mind.
You'll need to know what part you are singing (Soprano 1 or 2, Alto 1 or 2, Tenor or Bass). If you don't know, we can help! Once you have your part identified, you will sit with that group for the session's duration.
We take a break around the half-way mark to socialize and stretch our legs. We ask everyone to help put the space back before we leave, many hands make light work!
What if I have to miss a rehearsal?
We understand that life happens. We also know that many members are enjoying retirement, and travelling. We ask that you let someone know if you will be away, and if you plan to be away for more than three consecutive practices, please speak to the music director. These absences have an impact on rehearsals and you may be asked to to come back during a session when you are more available. These decisions are made at the discretion of the leadership team.
When do you start?
We hold two sessions each year. The fall/winter session begins with rehearsals kicking off the first Tuesday in September and ending after the concerts in December.
The spring session begins around mid-January and ends at the end of May.
When are the concerts?
Each session culminates in two concerts. The performances are usually in mid-December and mid-end of May, on a Sunday and a Tuesday. Exact dates and times vary year over year and will be communicated at the start of each session.
How much does it cost?
The fees for the 2025-2026 sessions are $45 for each session. This helps us fund the purchase of music, covers rental and insurance fees, printing fees, compensation, and special gifts.
While the Town Singers are self-funded through member fees, we never want cost to be a barrier to joining. If financial assistance would help, please speak with any member of our Executive Team in confidence. We have sponsors who generously support spots, and we handle all requests with discretion.
